Rodarte presented some of the most memorable pieces at New York Fashion Week this year thanks to a range of dresses printed with iconic Star Wars imagery. I mean, putting Luke Skywalker and Yoda front and center on your chiffon gowns is definitely going to get people talking. While I was personally delighted to see the greatest sci-fi franchise of all time (thoughts and opinions are my own, but also, don't argue) sneak onto the runway, the literal interpretation of geek chic was admittedly a tad random. Or at least it seemed that way, UNTIL NOW. *duuuun dun dun dun DUNdun dun DUNduuun* Star Wars just made another appearance for Fall/Winter 2014 at Preen's London Fashion Week show, so Rodarte's Jedi regalia could actually have been the first signs of a nerdy new trend.

The Star Wars films are constantly getting remade and rebooted, so it only makes sense that the franchise would get a fashion sequel as well. And Preen's sequel gave us something Rodarte's collection was notably missing: Darth Vader. Designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi used the darkest daddy in the galaxy as their muse, splashing his famous helmeted head across silk blouses and dresses. The designs are definitely less literal and more op-art than Rodarte's, thanks in large part to geometric patterns, cutouts, and angular collars. DV is the most hardcore character in the Empire, so methinks he would approve of Preen's slightly edgier interpretations.

Could the bi-weekly appearance of Star Wars in the high fashion circuit mean that geek is the new black? Will we start seeing Princess Leia buns on the cover of Vogue? Will Rihanna start wearing Ewok fur coats (she's almost there, TBH)? As long as Jar Jar Binks doesn't show up in any rhinestone-encrusted bodysuits, I'm totally ready to see this trend take off at warp speed.
